Django Art

It’s that time again. Mama can’t handle all the paper everywhere. So, I put it ALL in a box. EVERYTHING. Art on the fridge, on the walls, in piles in the bedrooms…ALL of it goes in the box. I take pictures, and save some precious pieces and toss the rest. It sounds cruel, doesn’t it? Our kids’ beautiful masterpieces in the trash? As long as I take pictures, they actually don’t mind. Daphné even helps me sometimes. She’s an art factory that our small European apartment cannot contain…haha!!!

So, let’s start with Django. These posts are mostly for me as a record, but feel free to scroll and enjoy.

Crown made at church, googly eye creatures made after receiving a box of art supplies from Grandma Kathy, funny Spiderman guy and a verse, “Thank you God. You made the trees for me.” Genesis 1:12 (<— it probably fell off one of the crafts you will see below.)

Mixed media.

“Thank you God for the fish!” - a craft from Sunday school.

Thank you God for birds! - another Sunday school craft.

An old piece of school work from last year in preschool. Color by number.

“Thank you God for little bugs.” - Sunday school. As you can see each week, their class thanks God for something.

“Jesus says, ‘Follow Me.’” Mark 1:14-20 - Sunday School.

“A boy shares.” and “Jesus does a miracle.” Luke 9:10-17

“God loves everyone.”

Even when we are disobedient like Jonah. Praise God for His patience and grace.

“God made beautiful flowers for me.” Genesis 1:12

Ah, here’s that verse from above that had no place. It must have been an extra. “Thank you God. You made trees for me.” Genesis 1:12

Coloring.

Coloring and construction. The fire engine was made with Mamie. She cut out shapes, and Django made this truck.

“God made my hair.” - The gal in charge of Sunday school this particular morning brought a hand mirror for the kids to look at themselves then draw their hair. She said that Django took it very seriously and was really studying himself in the mirror. Then she said he told her, “I made angry face” and laughed a good Django giggle. He’s so much fun.

Doodles galore. I really think his older sister has had a massive influence on his love for drawing. It’s beautiful to watch them both express themselves through art.

Django loves houses and cars with lots of doors and windows.

This is his very first piece of music theory work. His teacher is who Daphné had for intro to music and who I had for singing lessons in 2020. She’s wonderful, and I know she giggles when she sees Django’s masterpieces each week.

I love the fire-breathing, teeth-filled mouth. And did you see the door on the funny shaped car?

This was a Daphné-Django collaboration, mostly Django.

I think he said this was a dinosaur.

This is one of my favorites. So much going on, so much detail. And did you notice his name? He will every once in a while write his name completely backwards, so if you were to hold it in a mirror, it would be correct. That fascinates me. I don’t even know if he knows that’s what he’s doing.

A painting from the end of the school year last year, preschool.

Another fun painting from school!

Recycling old paper.

Now, this might be Daphné’s, but I couldn’t remember. Seems a bit precise for Django, but it will live here for now.

As soon as he learned how to write his name last year, I find his name everywhere. I love it!

More cars and houses with doors.

Cars with doors.

Another dinosaur.

Modern dinosaur.

Mama’s dinosaur.

Coloring and drawing.

Crazy house with a fun door.

Dinosaur. I think they were learning about dinosaurs recently in kindergarten.

Painting at home with mama.

Car with a door for Papa.

This is also a car.

Car house with a window.

Art with dot paint pens.

I drew the spiral. He turned it into a snail.

Car wtih a door knob.

He was so proud of his rainbow, and Daphné added the birds.

When Tonio and I went to Milan, our friend Caroline watched the kids. She drew this rocket, and Django colored it.

Evolution of the car. Ha.

He made this at school. Isn’t it such a great idea?! The teacher had the kids paint one paper plate and one toilet paper roll one day. Then she and her assistant cut and assembled with the kids I believe.

“God creates a marvelous world. In the beginning, there was nobody. No animals. No trees. No sun. The world didn’t exist! Then God said, ‘Let there be light! And the sea, and the heavens. Let there be hills and rivers. And the sun, the moon, the stars! Let there be fish and all kinds of animals.”

His art truly fascinates me. I love it. I saved this one for sure.

I think this started as a rainbow the other way, flipped the page and made an angry face. I don’t know if he was angry this day, but something that’s super cool is that the kids, especially Daphné will express their emotions in art. I have found an upset Daphné drawing a sad face or an angry face before. So healthy to process their emotions.

A “snowman” he made with Mamie Nancy. She always has such fun craft ideas.

“Thank you God for the animals that live on the ground!” I think my favorite part of this is his name =).

Wasn’t that fun? You learn so much about a person by the art that comes out of them, in whatever form it may be. We love our little Django artist.
