What I am learning…
I’m sure you’ve learned by now that I’m a fan of reflection. I love reflecting on God’s past faithfulness to remind me that I can trust Him with today. [enter peaceful sigh of relief]
I also like to reflect in my “The Next Right Thing Guided Journal.” I started it in January, and it has a section to reflect on what I’ve learned (and am learning) over that past 3 months. I would love to share some of those things from January, February and March 2023 with you here :
I have learned (and am learning)…
that I can cry out to God in every moment. Every single silly, strange, important, intense, emotional, exhausting and joyful moment. I’ve been saying “MERCY!!!” out loud quite a bit. God hears. He sees. I’m thankful. Studying the Psalms on Sundays has really helped me in this.
I have learned (and am learning)…
that I’m most filled up by talking to people I love, going to the gym, writing letters, writing blog posts and connecting with my people here.
I have learned (and am learning)…
that I’m most drained by sickness (in me or others), sleeplessness and strained relationships.
I have learned (and am learning)…
that I’m good at making certain dishes that are actually super yummy! I like them, AND other people like them! Lentil soup, quiche lorraine, chicken pot pie, coconut chicken curry, change your life chicken, enchiladas (Daphné helps me make them above), and chili and cornbread.
I have learned (and am learning)…
that I LOVE reading if it’s the right book. This year, I’ve already read 9 books, which is how many I read the entire year of 2020. Yay! I’m so thankful I’m a reader. I never thought it would happen.
I have learned (and am learning)…
that I really enjoy Heartland, the Canadian TV series with horses. I’m almost done with season 2, and I’m so happy to know that there are 15 seasons total. YAHOO!!!
I have learned (and am learning)…
that the kids get invited to LOTS of birthday parties. It’s a lot of gifts and time, but it’s life right now, so it’s good.
I have learned (and am learning)…
that I process grief by creating, namely creating videos, slideshows, photo books and blog posts. We Miss You Robie is a blogpost tribute to Tonio’s uncle who just died in February. Above is a photo book my dad asked me to make for their Christmas gathering last year, and I wrote a little tribute to my late Grandmother on the back.
I have learned (and am learning)…
that having proper glasses can be seriously life-changing! The pair I’m wearing as I type this blog post are my computer and reading glasses for close up stuff. You can see them in the photo above with my beautiful chickpox girl. And I have another pair for distance, which are soooooo helpful with driving, watching TV and leading worship. I can’t count how many times I’ve biffed chords because I confused a G with a C and vice versa! Ha. Now, that’s a thing of the past IF I remember to bring my glasses to church. ;) Hehe.
I have learned (and am learning)…
that my husband is truly incredible! I already know this, but he has been so incredibly supportive to me an the kids these past three months of sickness, grieving and fatigue. Thank you my love.
I hope this has been fun for you to read. The only reason I was able to summarize these things was due to me writing them in my guided journal each month. It’s a super fun, low-key journal, which is working well for me in this season of life. God is so good all the time, and I thank Him for this life I get to live. It’s so short. I want to use it well.
Love Linz
