Books I read in 2020
It’s not a long list folks, but it is a huge accomplishment for me. I used to fail almost every reading comprehension test in elementary school, which, of course, did not boost my confidence in reading in the slightest. On the contrary, I despised reading. It was so much effort. It took me so much time to read one page, let alone a whole book. And then, I couldn’t even remember what I read.
Then, we discovered I had some tracking problems with my eyes. An astigmatism. And a dash of dyslexia. A beautiful cocktail for excuses. I got glasses to read and labored through high school and university. But I did it, and I actually really like reading now! Hooray!
Here’s the 8 books I read this year. I’m so thankful!
Listed in order that I read them.
1) Dominic Done spoke at the Austria Missions Conference in August 2019. His teaching was about doubts in our faith. It was refreshing to be encouraged to question things about our faith in God. He emphasized that doubt is good, and it’s ok. This book was what I needed, and I will definitely be referring to it again. I recommend this to everyone no matter your background. It’s fascinating this man’s journey of doubt and what he discovers. Find When Faith Fails here.
2) I saw this movie as a young girl, the one made in 1990. Then, my mother-in-law let me borrow her book. It’s such a beautiful story; it gave me an appreciation for all the small things God has created, notably moths. I highly recommend it!!! Find A Girl of the Limberlost here.
3) This was a similar time period of fiction to A Girl of the Limberlost, but it was not my favorite. The southern accents written out made it difficult to read for me. The story was quaint with enough intrigue to keep me going, otherwise, I probably wouldn’t have finished it. Find The Shepherd of the Hills here.
4) I started this book and read it alongside the next 2 books in the list. Since it was loaded with so much good parenting information, I needed time to digest it. I want to be the best mama I possibly can and reading books such as this one really help me in that journey. I absolutely loved the perspectives offered in the this book. I highly recommend it! They approach from a faith-based lens, which is very important to me and our family. Find The 6 Needs of Every Child here.
5) The Chronicles of Narnia series has been one I have been wanting to read forever. My Aunt Kellee and Uncle Mark sent me the 3 first books at the beginning of confinement in March. Such good storytelling. Find The Magician’s Nephew here. [Sorry for the strange sizing of the pictures.]
6) The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe is definitley the main attraction of the series. So good! Find The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe here.
7) This has been my favorite book so far of the 4 out of 7 that I’ve read. Perhaps it’s that two of the main characters are talking horses. Ha! In either case, it was a good read. Find The Horse and His Boy here.
8) I just finished this one 2 days ago, and I’m always amazed at how C.S. Lewis creates such incredible stand-alone stories that are part of a bigger story! Find Prince Caspian here.
What books did you read this year? Any you recommend? I am really enjoying looking back. I may even do some favorites of 2020 lists soon. Thanks for reading the blog!
